Bronze and Silver Vertex Award 2017

The Vertex Awards are the only global competition devoted exclusively to Private Label Packaging Design. The entries are judged by a highly esteemed panel of industry experts from around the world, and awarded based on Creativity, Marketability and Innovation.

SILVER – Jacky & Tommy
No thrills underwear, good value for money. An Action ownable style, with playful illustration style targeted at mothers. As a result the underwear and socks category made a jump in Own Brand sales.

SILVER – Human Nature
Shoe boxes. The objective was to create a new contemporary design that can be an eyecatcher in the store. The re-design transformed the current used graphic footsteps towards real life footsteps on various grounds. As a result the brand had larger visibility that leads to a boost of store sales.

BRONZE – Sensabelle
Sensual underwear. The objective was to create a design for seamless women’s underwear private brand that feels modern and qualitative enough to convince customers of the quality of the intrensic product, and help navigate the consumer. As a result the underwear and socks category made a jump in Own Brand sales.

BRONZE – Jack Parker
Men’s underwear. The objective was to create a design for men’s underwear private brand that feels modern and qualitative enough to convince customers of the quality of the intrensic product, and help navigate the consumer. As a result the underwear and socks category made a jump in Own Brand sales.

NEWWAY

The third annual Vertex awards took place and we are very happy with our bronze title for Superunie’s New Way. The new packaging now stands out on shelf and communicates an equivalent national brand quality. The advertisement and in-store communication endorse the trusted quality and new look. Newway is ready for the future!

German Design Awards 2016

SPECIAL MENTION

Jawohl. Ein German Design Award Special Mention! One of the most prestigious design competitions in the world. Next to our ADCN and Pentaward, that’s one more beautiful award to put on our chimney. The lucky winner of course is Hands Off My Chocolate. This award tastes deliciously (just like the chocolate).

According to the international expert jury; Hands Off My Chocolate is a product for the real chocolate lover. The chocolate pieces are round for an optimal feeling in the mouth. The insight that you have to share a lot in this social media driven society is the starting point for this design. We believe everyone needs more little moments of joy just for themselves. This bar is too delicious to share with anyone else but yourself. The five different characters scream ‘Hands off!’. On each piece of chocolate “mine” is written.

The German Design Award is the international premium prize of the German Design Council. Its goal: discovering, presenting and awarding unique design trends. Every year, top-quality submissions from product and communications design are awarded, all of which are in their own way ground-breaking in the international design landscape. The German Design Award, started in 2012, is already one of the best-known design competitions in the world and is held in high regard well beyond professional circles.

An international expert panel is exclusively engaged with all nominations. The panel members conduct the evaluation in the individual categories of the competition based on their subject matter expertise.

Bronze Vertex Award 2015

BRONZE
Yellow Dress Retail was among the winners at the Vertex Awards ceremony. We won a Bronze Vertex Award for the innovative look of SPAR’s private label. Its contemporary design contributes to the new positioning of SPAR as the modern local shop for your everyday convenience and the considerable rise in the private label share can also partly be attributed to the new design.

The Vertex Awards are the only global competition devoted exclusively to Private Label Packaging Design. The entries are judged by a highly esteemed panel of industry experts from around the world, and awarded based on Creativity, Marketability and Innovation. This year over 250 private label packaging designs were sent in from 21 different countries belonging to 55 different retailers, that were designed or available for sale in 2014.

The award-winning SPAR design is based on SPAR’s 80-year history. It is entirely inspired by the filling of the shelves in the first grocery stores. It stands out and tempts customers into choosing the private label which makes SPAR the hero on the shelf all over again.

Pentawards 2014

GOLD AND SILVER
During the 2014 edition of the Pentawards, the prestigious international packaging competition, the international jury granted us two awards. A Golden Pentaward for the design of SPAR detergents and Silver Pentaward for the design of Hands Off My Chocolate.

The Pentaward is a leading global design competition exclusively devoted to packaging design. From around the world hundreds of packaging designs, introduced or released in 2014, were submitted.
The entries were judged by an international jury of heavy weights with expertise in the field of marketing and packaging design.

The 2014 winners will be published in the popular book The package design book (published by Tasschen).

BRAND BUILDING
Loe Limpens (creative strategy director Yellow Dress) is particularly proud of the international appreciation for the designs of Yellow Dress. “Since 2012 we are restyling the SPAR brand with clear visual recognition throughout the store. It’s great to see that our client, who is consistently investing in visualizing the brand strategy, clearly benefits through a rising own brand revenue.”

The Pentaward for Hands Off My Chocolate is a reward for the first successful year of this new chocolate brand. “Together with the founders we worked on the positioning of the brand, the design of the identity, packaging and deployment of communications, including the website. This integrated approach of the new brand has contributed to the successful launch, ” said Loe Limpens.

HIGHLIGHT
We won an ADCN ‘bulb’ for our design work on Hands off my chocolate. The Art Directors Club Netherlands annually honours the year’s best creative work in Dutch design and advertising.

PLMA 2014
INTERNATIONAL SALUTE TO EXCELLENCE AWARD
The international Private Label Manufacturers Association (PLMA) has announced SPAR Netherlands Mozzarella Pizza as the winner of the ‘PLMA 2014 International Salute to Excellence Award’ in the pasta and pizza category. The prize is awarded to innovative private label brands and is chosen by an international jury. Value for money and taste, as well as packing design, were key factors in choosing the winning product.

Brand manager Jan-Hein van Spaandonk:” The price is a wonderful recognition for the private label range that got a whole new look and feel in the past two years. The contemporary and fresh design is a great boost for the brand’s imago. We are very proud to win this award, we worked hard to launch the new design and together with a lot of people we were able to get Spar back on the shelves.”
